Huayhuash Trek: An Andean Adventure

Embark on an andvenure through the stunning Cordillera Huayhuash, one of the most breathtaking mountain ranges in the world. Hike past towering 6,000m peaks, pristine glacial lakes, and remote high-altitude passes, all while immersing yourself in the untouched beauty of the Peruvian Andes. Encounter local Quechua culture, soak in natural hot springs, and camp beneath star-filled skies.

 

DAY 1
04:00 AM

A Journey Through the Andes

Our departure from Huaraz is at 4:00am: Huaraz – Chiquian – Llamac – Pocpa arriving at the Matacancha camp (4180msnm) with a 5-hour drive tour. In the matacancha camp we only make a stop to organize ourselves and then we start our walk going up to the Cacananpunta pass that is at an altitude of 4800msnm where you can see the Pucacocha lagoon that is red and a very beautiful panorama with valleys on both margins; making a journey of 4 hours with 8 kilometers, arriving at the Janca camp, end of the day

DAY 2
05:00 am

Conquering Salkantay Pass

After breakfast, we begin a gentle two-hour ascent to Carhuac Pass (4,650m), followed by a descent to our scenic campsite. Here, breathtaking views of towering 6,000m peaks and a stunning turquoise lagoon await, making it one of the most picturesque spots on the Huayhuash Circuit. After settling in, we enjoy a well-earned lunch, reflecting on the 11 km, 4-5 hour journey through this spectacular Andean landscape.

DAY 3
FROM 04:00 AM

A Journey Through Nature and Adventure

After a hearty morning meal, we hike past the Gangrajanca and Siula lagoons, ascending to the Three Lagoons Viewpoint, one of the most breathtaking panoramas on the Huayhuash Circuit. From here, admire towering peaks like Yerupajá Grande (6,632m)—Peru’s second-highest mountain—along with Jirishanca and Siula Chico. Continuing to Siula Pass (4,800m), we descend past Carnicerococha Lagoon before reaching Huayhuash Camp after a 16 km, 6-7 hour journey through this stunning alpine wilderness.

DAY 4

04:00 AM

After a nourishing morning meal, we set off on one of the most challenging stretches of the trek. The climb leads to Trapezium Pass (5,000m), offering a spectacular panorama of towering peaks and shimmering lagoons—one of Huayhuash’s top scenic viewpoints. After soaking in the views, we begin a rocky descent toward camp, completing a 14 km journey in 5-6 hours through rugged, awe-inspiring terrain.

A Breathtaking Journey Through the Heart of the Andes

The Huayhuash Circuit is a breathtaking high-altitude trek through Peru’s rugged Andes, featuring towering peaks, glacial lakes, and remote wilderness. Spanning 8–12 days, it challenges trekkers with steep passes over 4,500m, rewarding them with panoramic vistas and star-lit campsites. Home to Yerupajá (6,632m), Peru’s second-highest peak, the trail offers a mix of solitude, adventure, and Quechua culture, making it a bucket-list journey for seasoned hikers.

DAY 5

04:00 AM

As usual, after a hearty morning meal, we set off toward San Antonio Viewpoint (5,000m), the most stunning vantage point in Huayhuash. From here, take in a breathtaking panorama of the entire mountain range, with valleys, rivers, and shimmering lagoons stretching before you. After soaking in the beauty, we begin our descent through the Calinca ravine, making our way to Huayllapa village. A challenging yet rewarding 18 km trek, covering 7 to 8 hours of pure Andean adventure.

DAY 6

04:00 AM

After a nourishing morning meal, we begin our ascent to Tapush Pass (4,800m), where the striking Mute Devil Mountain (5,223m) dominates the skyline. Known for its accessible climb, this peak attracts many expeditions, offering breathtaking views of Susucocha Lagoon and the distant Cordillera Blanca from its summit. We continue our trek through stunning landscapes before reaching our campsite. A 14 km journey, taking approximately 5 to 6 hours.

DAY 7

04:00 AM

After a hearty meal, we begin our ascent to Punta Yaucha (4,750m), where breathtaking views of the Huayhuash range and towering snow-capped peaks unfold. Continuing on, we reach the Jahuacocha viewpoint, offering a stunning panorama of Jahuacocha and Solterococha lagoons, considered the third most beautiful sight in the range. After soaking in the scenery, we descend to our camp near the lagoon. A 12 km journey, taking approximately 4 to 5 hours. End of the day

DAY 8

04:00 AM

After a nourishing meal, we embark on our final trek, ascending to 4,600m in about two hours. A gentle descent leads us to Pocpa, where our incredible journey comes to an end. Here, our bus awaits the return to Huaraz (3.5 hours). Today’s trek covers 12 km in approximately 4 hours.
