Day 1Cusco – Mollepata – Challacancha – Soraypampa (Humantay Lagoon)

Walking Distance: Approximately 7 km
Elevation Gain: From 3,800 m to 4,200 m

Embark on Your Path of Wonders

Your extraordinary journey begins in the early morning as we pick you up from your Cusco hotel between 4:00 am and 4:30 am. The city streets are quiet, and the anticipation of adventure fills the crisp air. As we depart, the sun rises over the Andean mountains, casting a golden glow over the ancient city.

Our comfortable bus winds through scenic landscapes toward the charming village of Mollepata. En route, marvel at breathtaking views of fertile valleys and towering peaks. We’ll pause briefly to pay a small local municipality fee (20 soles, not included) before enjoying a hearty breakfast—fueling up for the adventure ahead.

Back on the road, we continue to Challacancha (3,800 m), the true starting point of our trek. Here, surrounded by awe-inspiring mountains, we set off on foot, embarking on a 5-hour hike toward Soraypampa (3,900 m). The trail unveils stunning vistas at every turn: cascading rivers, verdant hillsides, and the majestic Salkantay Mountain looming ahead with its snow-capped peak piercing the sky.

As we tread ancient paths, you’ll feel a deep connection with nature and the storied history of the Andes. Keep an eye out for soaring condors and other native wildlife that add to the wonder of the journey.

Upon arriving at Soraypampa, a delicious lunch prepared by our skilled chef awaits you. After some rest, we’ll embark on an afternoon excursion to the mesmerizing Humantay Lagoon (4,200 m). The hike to the lagoon is a challenging ascent, but the reward is beyond words. The lagoon’s crystal-clear turquoise waters mirror the surrounding snow-clad mountains, creating a scene of unparalleled beauty.

Take time to absorb the tranquility, snap unforgettable photos, and perhaps partake in a traditional offering to Pachamama (Mother Earth), expressing gratitude for the natural splendor surrounding you.

As evening approaches, we’ll descend back to our base camp. At 5:00 pm, enjoy afternoon tea with warm beverages and snacks, sharing stories and laughter with your trekking companions. Dinner is served shortly after, featuring a nourishing meal that showcases local flavors.

Under a blanket of stars, your guide will brief you on the next day’s adventures. Then, retreat to your cozy little rustic cottage and fall asleep to the sounds of nature as your lullaby.

Conquer the Challenge, Embrace the Wonder

Awaken to the gentle call of the mountains and a warm cup of coca tea at 4:30 am—a traditional remedy to invigorate your senses. After a hearty breakfast, we set off early to tackle the most demanding yet rewarding part of our trek.

The trail leads us upward toward the Salkantay Pass (4,650 m), the highest point of our journey. The ascent is challenging, but each step is a testament to your determination and spirit of adventure. Surrounded by towering peaks and glistening glaciers, you’ll feel as though you’re walking among the clouds.

Upon reaching the pass, take a moment to revel in the panoramic views of the Andes. The grandeur of Salkantay Mountain and the surrounding landscape is humbling and awe-inspiring—a true highlight of the Path of Wonders.

Here, we’ll pause for a traditional Pachamama ceremony, offering thanks to Mother Earth for a safe journey and the privilege of experiencing such natural beauty.
