Itinerary

Day 1Cusco – Biking – Rafting - Santa Maria

Pick-up will begin from 06:30 – 07.00 am; between that time, we will be arriving at any time at your hotel in Cusco. Please be always ready to leave.

Once everybody is already on board, we will travel by bus to Abra Malaga, where we’ll arrive by 11 am. It is the place where your real adventure will start. Here, you will be equipped with bicycle protection equipment, and you’ll begin the 3 hours bicycle route to Huamanmarca, where the bus that will take us to the town of Santa Maria will wait for us.

Arriving at Santa Maria, we will have lunch and rest. You will have two options here: one would be to stay at the lodge and rest or go rafting (included) to a point very close to Santa Maria. In the evening we will meet again with the whole group for dinner and then rest for the second day.

Day 2Santa Maria – Quellomayo – Santa Teresa

Our day begins at 6:00 am. After enjoying breakfast, we will start the hike along the Inca Trail. Along the way, we will observe the diverse flora and fauna of the place, many species of birds, and a wide range of orchids and fruit trees. Remember that this area of Cusco, the Amazon rainforest, has one of the richest areas of biological diversity on the planet! In the small town of Kellomayo, we will have an energetic lunch and rest.

We will continue the route until we reach the thermal baths of Santa Teresa (Cocalmayo), which are medicinal and therapeutic waters. After relaxing, we will continue with a 40-minute walk to the town of Santa Teresa, where we will spend our second night in a family lodge. At night, we will have dinner in a group and enjoy the time with your new travel buddies with a pisco sour!

Day 3Santa Teresa –Hydroelectric – Zip line - Aguas Calientes

We’ll begin our day with breakfast. After, if you want, you’ll have the opportunity to do the zip line (included) in the town of Santa Teresa. Once this activity is over, we will begin our bus trip to the hydroelectric.

*Those who do not wanna do it then can continue resting in the lodge until the zip line activity is over.

We will arrive at Hidroeléctrica after 40 minutes by bus. We will stop for lunch in one of the surrounding restaurants and rest before the last stretch of our trip (9 km) along the railway, located in a part of the jungle, full of incredible and dense vegetation. Here we will have the option to take the train ($35.00) or walk about 3 hours to Aguas Calientes.

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, we will leave our bags at the lodge, and we will have free time to explore the town, and the artisan market, or simply relax with a bath in the hot springs ($ 5.00 / 15 soles) or rest at the lodge. In the evening, we will meet the whole group again. We will have dinner in a restaurant and have a briefing for our next day’s activity in Machu Picchu.

Day 4Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo - Cusco

Finally, the BIG DAY arrived. Today we will get up very early at 4:30 am and 4:50 am to start the last day of the Salkantay trek. We will meet in the dining room with all our belongings to have a good breakfast (30min) and then leave for the citadel of Machu Picchu on foot for about 1hr50min or take the tourist bus (20 min – 12 USD UP).

Upon our arrival at the entrance of Machu Picchu, we will all proceed to show our original passports and tickets to the control area. Once inside the Citadel, we will have time to take pictures for about 20 min approx. We will begin our 2-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu, after which we will have free time to explore it.

At the end of the visit, we will return to Aguas Calientes on foot or by bus (USD 12 down). Here we will have time for lunch and then return to the hotel to collect our belongings and go to the train station to catch the train that will take us to Ollantaytambo (1hr45min), where our bus will be waiting there to take us to Cusco 2hrs.

VERY IMPORTANT:
The train departure will be according to the SCHEDULE available by the train company. It can vary depending on how early was purchased.

If you have a different type of Machu Picchu ticket than the rest of the group, then you have to enter at the specified time your entrance. It will mean that you do not have the included guide of 2 hours in the citadel. It can happen if you buy or reserve the trek with us at the last minute or if you got your Machu Picchu ticket during the high season.

The drop-off will be at Plaza Regocijo, close to Plaza de Armas, three block distance. We do this because the traffic in Cusco city at night is chaotic, and the arrival at your hostel door may take too much time. We hope you can understand.

Machu Picchu Tickets - Train tickets

You have know:

If you book a few days after starting the trek or at the last moment, the company will buy the train tickets or Machu Picchu tickets available on the official platform of said entities on your behalf.

There are 4 different circuits to visit the famous citadel. The company will make the purchase of the entrance to Machu Picchu immediately after making the payment in cash at our office or through our website. The company does not offer the purchase of any circuit in particular if it is a reservation close to the departure date. Before making reservations, we ask you to ask us about the availability of the circuits / entrance preference via WhatsApp. We always recommend you book in advance.

The company does not make or promise any change of train tickets or Machu Picchu tickets since these have been purchased on its behalf. Any change of train ticket schedule / departure will be subject to the administration of the referred entity (train company) and subject to some extra payment if required; If so, the extra cost will be assumed by the passenger.

Regarding the change of Machu Picchu ticket. The company does NOT offer changes or refunds once it has been purchased on your behalf. We recommend you book and pay in advance.

2hrs Guide Tour in Machu Picchu

The guided tour to the citadel is always done in the early hours of the day (2hrs). If you have a different ticket (circuit) than the rest of the group, or if you have a different entry time, you have to enter to Machu Picchu without any guide. That means that you will not  have the guided tour offered for 2hrs unfortunately. This is because we only have one guide for the group. We look forward to your understanding.

Cusco drop off

The drop-off will be at Plaza Regocijo, close to Plaza de Armas, three block distance. We do this because the traffic in Cusco city at night is chaotic, and the arrival at your hostel door may take too much time. We hope you can understand.

Duffle bag

A duffel bag will be provided to everyone before the hike begins at the time of the briefing. We will ask you for a small deposit (50 soles) for this. We will return that money once you personally return the tarpaulin to our staff in Cusco. We do this for events that occurred in the past with other travelers. We hope you understand why we do this.
