Day 1Cusco – Mollepata – Challacancha – Soraypampa (Humantay Lagoon)

Walking Distance: Approximately 12 km
Elevation Gain: From 2,900 m to 3,900 m

Embark on Your Path of Wonders

Your extraordinary adventure begins early in the morning as we pick you up from your Cusco hotel between 4:00 am and 4:50 am. The city rests under the last stars of the night as we set off, the anticipation of the journey ahead filling the crisp air. As dawn breaks, the Andean landscape comes alive with hues of gold and pink, signaling the start of an unforgettable experience.

Our comfortable bus transports us through scenic valleys and towering mountains to the charming village of Mollepata (2,900 m / 9,514 ft). Here, we’ll enjoy a hearty breakfast to fuel up for the day’s trek. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and local delicacies invigorates your senses, preparing you for the wonders that await.

From Marcocasa, the true starting point of our hike, we begin our ascent toward Soraypampa (3,900 m / 12,795 ft). The trail unfolds before us, revealing breathtaking vistas at every turn—rolling hills blanketed with wildflowers, valleys carved by ancient glaciers, and the majestic Salkantay Mountain standing sentinel with its snow-capped peak piercing the sky.

As we tread ancient paths, immerse yourself in the serenity of nature. The symphony of the Andes accompanies us—the distant rush of waterfalls, the melodic songs of native birds, and the whisper of the wind through the rugged terrain.

Upon arriving at Soraypampa, our base camp for the night, a delicious lunch prepared by our skilled chef awaits. After replenishing our energy, we’ll embark on an afternoon excursion to the enchanting Humantay Lagoon (4,200 m / 13,780 ft).

The hike to Humantay Lagoon is a challenging ascent, but each step brings us closer to one of the Andes’ hidden gems. As we reach the lagoon, a scene of unparalleled beauty unfolds—a crystalline turquoise lake cradled by towering snow-clad mountains. The still waters mirror the sky and peaks, creating a surreal and tranquil atmosphere that feels like stepping into a dream.

Take time to absorb the majesty of this sacred place. Feel the cool mountain breeze on your face, listen to the whispers of the wind, and perhaps partake in a traditional offering to Pachamama (Mother Earth), expressing gratitude for the natural splendor surrounding you.

As the sun begins to set, casting a warm glow over the landscape, we’ll descend back to Soraypampa. At camp, unwind with a warm beverage and snacks during our afternoon tea time, sharing stories and laughter with your fellow adventurers. Dinner is served shortly after, featuring a nourishing meal that showcases local flavors and ingredients.

Under a blanket of stars, your guide will brief you on the next day’s adventures. Then, retreat to your cozy little rustic cottage and fall asleep to the sounds of nature as your lullaby.

Day 2Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Huayracmachay – Colpapampa

Walking Distance: Approximately 22 km
Elevation Change: From 3,900 m up to 4,750 m, then down to 2,850 m

Conquer the Challenge, Embrace the Wonder

Awaken before dawn to the gentle call of the mountains and a warm cup of coca tea at 5:00 am—a traditional remedy to invigorate your senses and aid acclimatization. After a hearty breakfast, we set off early to tackle the most demanding yet rewarding part of our trek.

Our ascent toward the Salkantay Pass (4,750 m / 15,583 ft) is a challenging journey through rugged terrain and high altitudes. The air is thin but filled with a sense of achievement as we approach the highest point of our trek. Surrounded by towering peaks and glistening glaciers, you’ll feel as though you’re walking among the clouds.

Upon reaching the pass, take a moment to revel in the panoramic views of the Andes. The grandeur of Salkantay Mountain and the surrounding landscape is humbling and awe-inspiring—a true highlight of your Path of Wonders. Here, we’ll pause for a traditional Pachamama ceremony, offering thanks to Mother Earth for a safe journey and the privilege of experiencing such natural beauty.

After capturing unforgettable photos and allowing the significance of the moment to sink in, we begin our descent toward Huayracmachay, where a delicious lunch awaits. Rest and rejuvenate, enjoying the tranquility of this remote location.

Continuing our descent, the landscape transforms dramatically. The stark alpine terrain gives way to the lush cloud forest, where the air is warmer and filled with the scent of wild orchids and exotic flowers. The trail is alive with the sounds of hummingbirds, colorful butterflies, and the rustling of wildlife hidden in the foliage—a reminder of the rich biodiversity of this region.

By late afternoon, we arrive at Colpapampa (2,850 m / 9,350 ft), our campsite for the night, nestled amidst greenery and natural hot springs. Here, you can relax and soothe your muscles, perhaps even take a refreshing shower to wash away the day’s exertions.

In the evening, gather for afternoon tea and a hearty dinner prepared by our chef. Share your achievements and experiences of the day as the stars emerge overhead. Your guide will provide a briefing for the next day’s journey before you retire to your tent, lulled to sleep by the gentle sounds of the forest.

The trail meanders through landscapes bursting with vibrant flora—orchids, bromeliads, and a myriad of tropical plants. The sweet scent of wildflowers fills the air as colorful butterflies dance around you. Keep an eye out for exotic birds and perhaps even playful monkeys swinging through the canopy.

We’ll pass through local plantations where coffee, bananas, avocados, and passion fruit grow in abundance. Our guide will share insights into traditional farming practices, and you may have the opportunity to sample fresh produce right from the source—a true farm-to-table experience.

By midday, we reach the small town of La Playa Sahuayaco, where we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch and rest. Afterward, a private transport will take us to Hidroelectrica. Along the way, marvel at the impressive waterfalls and the ever-changing landscapes.

From Hidroelectrica, we’ll embark on a scenic 3-hour walk following the train tracks toward Aguas Calientes (2,040 m / 6,692 ft).
