Full Itinerary

Day 1 – Huaraz to Janca Camp (4,800 m Pass)

04:00 AM

A Journey Through the Andes

First, we depart Huaraz at 4:00 a.m. and drive five hours to Matacancha (4,180 m). After organizing equipment, we begin an 8 km hike toward Cacananpunta Pass (4,800 m). Later, enjoy panoramic views of the red Pucacocha Lagoon and surrounding valleys.

Finally, we descend to Janca Camp, where we rest for the night.

Day 2 – Carhuac Pass & Turquoise Lagoon Camp

05:00 am

After breakfast, we begin a gentle two-hour ascent to Carhuac Pass (4,650 m). As a result, panoramic views of towering 6,000-meter peaks unfold before us. Later, we descend toward our scenic campsite beside a stunning turquoise lagoon. After settling in, we enjoy lunch and rest.

Finally, we reflect on an 11 km hike completed in 4–5 hours through spectacular Andean landscapes.

Day 3 – Three Lagoons Viewpoint & Siula Pass

FROM 04:00 AM

After a hearty breakfast, we hike past Gangrajanca and Siula lagoons. First, we ascend to the Three Lagoons Viewpoint, one of the most breathtaking panoramas on the Huayhuash Circuit. Later, admire towering peaks like Yerupajá Grande (6,632 m), Jirishanca, and Siula Chico. After that, we continue to Siula Pass (4,800 m) and descend past Carnicerococha Lagoon.

Finally, we reach Huayhuash Camp after a 16 km, 6–7 hour trek through stunning alpine wilderness.

Day 4 – Trapezium Pass (5,000 m) Challenge

After a nourishing breakfast, we set off on one of the trek’s most challenging stretches. First, we climb to Trapezium Pass (5,000 m), offering panoramic views of towering peaks and shimmering lagoons. Later, we begin a rocky descent toward camp, surrounded by awe-inspiring terrain.

Finally, we complete a 14 km hike in 5–6 hours through this rugged alpine landscape.

A Breathtaking Journey Through the Heart of the Andes

The Huayhuash Circuit is a breathtaking high-altitude trek through Peru’s rugged Andes, featuring towering peaks, glacial lakes, and remote wilderness. Spanning 8–12 days, it challenges trekkers with steep passes over 4,500m, rewarding them with panoramic vistas and star-lit campsites. Home to Yerupajá (6,632m), Peru’s second-highest peak, the trail offers a mix of solitude, adventure, and Quechua culture, making it a bucket-list journey for seasoned hikers.

Day 5 – San Antonio Viewpoint & Descent to Huayllapa

After a hearty breakfast, we hike toward San Antonio Viewpoint (5,000 m), the most stunning vantage point in Huayhuash. First, enjoy a panoramic view of the entire mountain range, with valleys, rivers, and shimmering lagoons stretching before you. Later, we begin our descent through Calinca Ravine toward Huayllapa village.

Finally, we complete an 18 km, 7–8 hour trek of challenging yet rewarding Andean adventure.

Day 6 – Tapush Pass & Mute Devil Mountain

04:00 AM

After a nourishing breakfast, we begin our ascent to Tapush Pass (4,800 m), dominated by Mute Devil Mountain (5,223 m). First, admire panoramic views of Susucocha Lagoon and the distant Cordillera Blanca. Later, we continue the trek through stunning alpine landscapes toward our campsite.

Finally, we complete a 14 km, 5–6 hour journey, enjoying one of Huayhuash’s most scenic sections.

Day 7 – Punta Yaucha & Jahuacocha Viewpoint

04:00 AM

After a hearty breakfast, we begin our ascent to Punta Yaucha (4,750 m), enjoying breathtaking views of the Huayhuash range. First, admire towering snow-capped peaks and panoramic alpine scenery. Later, we reach the Jahuacocha viewpoint, overlooking Jahuacocha and Solterococha lagoons—one of the most beautiful sights in the circuit.

Finally, we descend to our campsite near the lagoon, completing a 12 km, 4–5 hour trek. End of the day.

Day 8 – Final Trek & Return to Huaraz

04:00 AM

After a nourishing breakfast, we begin our final trek, ascending to 4,600 m in about two hours. First, enjoy a gentle descent toward Pocpa. Later, our private bus awaits to return us to Huaraz, a 3.5-hour drive.

Finally, we complete a 12 km, 4-hour trek, marking the end of this unforgettable Huayhuash adventure.

Difficulty Level: Moderate to challenging (4/5). This expedition requires excellent physical condition. Previous multi-day trekking experience is highly recommended.

BOOKING

For the 8-Day Huayhuash Trek Expedition with Peru Bucket List, reservations must be confirmed at least two (2) months in advance.

This expedition is carefully planned and logistically complex, requiring detailed coordination of permits, staff, equipment, mule teams, and safety arrangements. Early booking ensures proper organization and the highest operational standards.

Full payment (100% of the total amount) is required at the time of booking in order to secure all expedition services.

For last-minute inquiries, availability is not guaranteed. Travelers must ensure they have completed the mandatory minimum acclimatization period (at least 2 full days in Huaraz) prior to departure.

Cancellations & Refund Policy

For the 8-Day Huayhuash Trek Expedition, the minimum cancellation notice period is five (5) days prior to departure.

  • Cancellations made at least five (5) days before departure are eligible for a partial refund, with a 23% retention fee applied to cover taxes, administrative expenses, and pre-operational logistics costs.

  • Refunds will be processed via the original booking platform or via PayPal, depending on the payment method used.

  • Any transaction fees, platform charges, PayPal fees, currency exchange differences, or additional banking costs generated during the refund process are not refundable and will not be assumed by Peru Bucket List.

  • Cancellations made within five (5) days of departure, after the stated deadline, or failure to appear (no-show) will incur a 100% cancellation fee, with no exceptions.

Due to the nature of this expedition, which requires extensive logistical coordination, advance payments to local teams, muleteers, permits, equipment preparation, and operational planning, these policies are strictly enforced. We appreciate your understanding.


Changes & Date Modifications

  • Any request to change the departure date must be submitted at least five (5) days prior to the expedition start date.

  • All date changes are subject to availability.

  • The same 23% administrative and tax retention applies to approved modifications.

  • Requests made after the indicated deadline are considered non-refundable.


Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that covers cancellations, medical emergencies, evacuation, and trip interruptions.

If necessary, Peru Bucket List can provide an official letter or documentation to support your insurance claim so you may seek reimbursement directly through your insurance provider.


We appreciate your understanding, as expeditions of this scale require significant advance planning, staffing, and financial commitments.

MANDATORY ACCLIMATIZATION REQUIREMENT

All participants must complete a minimum of two (2) full days of acclimatization in Huaraz prior to the start of the expedition. This requirement is essential to reduce the risk of altitude-related illness and to ensure participant safety. Failure to properly acclimatize may result in removal from the expedition without refund if deemed necessary for health or safety reasons.

Altitude Range: Approximately 3,100 m to 5,000 m above sea level.

Total Hiking Distance: Approximately 112 kilometers over the course of the program.

ITINERARY MODIFICATIONS & PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITY

The itinerary may be modified due to weather conditions, safety concerns, governmental regulations, public disturbances, or other unforeseen circumstances beyond our control.

Any operational changes that generate additional costs (including but not limited to transportation adjustments, accommodation changes, rerouting, or logistical modifications) shall be the sole responsibility of the participant. Such additional expenses are strictly non-refundable.

If a participant presents any medical condition, physical limitation, or health risk during the expedition that compromises their safety or that of the group, immediate evacuation may be required at the discretion of the expedition leader. All evacuation, medical, rescue, or associated transportation costs will be fully assumed by the participant.

We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking, medical emergencies, and evacuation services.
