Peru Bucket List Terms & Conditions Booking, Payments & Safety

Terms & Conditions – Peru Bucket List Tours

At Peru Bucket List, your safety, comfort, and peace of mind are our top priorities. Before participating in any of our treks or tours to Machu Picchu, all travelers must carefully review the following Terms and Conditions, which outline the policies related to reservations, payments, cancellations, travel safety, and participation requirements.

By confirming a booking with us, you acknowledge and accept these terms. They are designed to ensure a smooth and well-organized experience while complying with local regulations and protecting both travelers and the company.

Please note that these Terms and Conditions apply specifically to Machu Picchu tours and treks. For other experiences offered by Peru Bucket List, we kindly invite travelers to review the corresponding terms and conditions applicable to those services.

About Peru

Peru is a megadiverse country with a rugged landscape and a wide range of microclimates. It is divided into three distinct regions:

  • Coast (10%) – Primarily desert, with warm temperatures.

  • Andes (26%) – A mountainous region with high altitudes and varying weather conditions.

  • Amazon (64%) – A vast jungle with humid and tropical climates.

Due to this diversity, traveling in Peru can be an unpredictable yet unforgettable experience. Weather conditions can change drastically—one moment it may be cold, and the next, extremely hot. Rain can last all day or not occur at all. We share this information so you can take the necessary precautions before your journey begins.

Important Consideration

Exploring Peru, especially the Andean region like Cusco, requires flexibility, patience, a positive attitude, and understanding. Access to certain remote locations can be challenging, and conditions may not always be as expected.

We encourage you to carefully read the following statements to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Let us know if you need any assistance. We’re here to make your adventure unforgettable!

Trip Planning & Itinerary Adjustments

Itinerary Adjustments

In the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as natural disasters, strikes, or social conflicts, it may become necessary to depart earlier than scheduled to ensure the smooth continuation of other services and the overall safety of the trip. These situations, while uncommon, can occur in regions like Cusco and may require temporary adjustments to your itinerary.

If an early departure is required, additional expenses for accommodation, meals, or other services may apply depending on the situation and location. By booking with Peru Bucket List SAC, you acknowledge and accept responsibility for these extra costs and agree to waive any future claims or refund requests related to such adjustments.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding, flexibility, and cooperation as we work to provide the best possible travel experience, always prioritizing your safety and well-being.

Machu Picchu & Guided Tours

Machu Picchu Entrance Ticket Policy and Availability Conditions

Please note that the Machu Picchu entrance ticket is included in the program price subject to availability for the requested date and entry time at the moment of booking, according to the official ticketing system managed exclusively by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture.

Due to the high demand and the limited number of daily visitor permits established by the government, Peru Bucket List SAC strongly recommends that travelers book their tour or trek well in advance, particularly during peak season (June to October).

Peru Bucket List SAC acts solely as an intermediary for the purchase of Machu Picchu entrance tickets, and therefore cannot guarantee ticket availability, specific circuits, or exact entry times, as these are determined entirely by the official government platform in real time.

Availability Scenarios

Scenario 1 – Tickets Available at the Time of Booking

If Machu Picchu entrance tickets are available for the requested travel date at the time of booking, Peru Bucket List SAC will proceed with the purchase through the official Ministry of Culture system using the personal information provided by the traveler.

The confirmed ticket will correspond to the circuit, route, and entry time available at the moment of purchase.

Please note the following conditions:

  • Entry circuits and schedules depend exclusively on real-time government availability.
  • Peru Bucket List SAC cannot guarantee a specific circuit, route, or entry time.
  • Members of the same group may occasionally receive different entry times or circuits due to availability limitations.
  • Once issued, Machu Picchu entrance tickets cannot be modified, transferred, or refunded, in accordance with Ministry of Culture regulations.

Scenario 2 – No Availability at the Time of Booking

If tickets are not available for the requested date at the time of booking—particularly during high season (June to September) or for last-minute reservations—travelers may still proceed with the tour or trek as scheduled and attempt to purchase the entrance ticket in person in the town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) through the official Ministry of Culture office.

In this situation, the amount corresponding to the Machu Picchu entrance ticket included in the package price (USD 45 per person) will be refunded to the traveler so that it can be used toward the in-person purchase.

In-Person Ticket Purchase Process in Aguas Calientes

Travelers must follow the official procedure established by the Ministry of Culture:

  1. Appear in person at the Ministry of Culture office in Aguas Calientes.
  2. Present the original, valid passport.
  3. Join the official waiting line to register for ticket availability.

Once registered, the Ministry staff will provide a notice indicating the specific date and time when the traveler must return to complete the purchase.

Important Conditions

  • Payment must be made in Peruvian soles (cash only).
  • Credit cards and foreign currency are not accepted.
  • Only the circuits and schedules available at that moment may be selected.
  • The purchase opportunity is single-use, and one of the available options must be accepted.

During peak season, this process may take up to two (2) days, depending on ticket demand and visitor volume.

Travelers must be prepared for the possibility of:

  • waiting in line early in the morning,
  • returning at the assigned purchase time,
  • or extending their stay in Aguas Calientes if necessary.

Responsibility and Additional Expenses

If the in-person purchase process requires additional waiting time, travelers acknowledge and accept that they may need to extend their stay in Aguas Calientes.

Any additional expenses resulting from this situation—including but not limited to accommodation, meals, transportation, or itinerary changes—will be the sole responsibility of the traveler.

Peru Bucket List SAC cannot be held responsible for ticket unavailability, delays, or inventory limitations, as the allocation and control of Machu Picchu entrance tickets are managed exclusively by the Peruvian government authorities.

Important Recommendation

To avoid potential inconveniences and ensure a smoother travel experience, Peru Bucket List SAC strongly recommends that travelers:

  • Book their tour or trek several weeks or months in advance
  • Confirm ticket availability before making a reservation
  • Maintain flexibility in their travel itinerary
  • Avoid scheduling tight connections with flights or other transportation immediately after their Machu Picchu visit

By confirming a reservation with Peru Bucket List SAC, travelers acknowledge and accept these conditions regarding Machu Picchu ticket availability and government-controlled inventory.

Machu Picchu Guide Tour

Due to the limited number of daily tickets issued for Machu Picchu, travelers within the same reservation or travel group may receive different entry times or circuits.

When this occurs:

  • Travelers whose tickets match the guide’s assigned circuit and entry schedule will participate in the scheduled guided tour (circuit 2).
  • Travelers with different circuits or entry times may explore the site independently or hire an official licensed guide available at the entrance of Machu Picchu.

The approximate cost for hiring a licensed guide on-site ranges between USD 9 and USD 10 per person, payable directly by the traveler.

Travelers acknowledge that guided services organized by Peru Bucket List SAC may only be available for specific circuits and entry times, typically Llaqta Machu Picchu (Circuit 2) with entry between approximately 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., subject to availability.

Limitation of Liability for Guided Services

By booking with Peru Bucket List SAC, travelers acknowledge and accept that:

  • The company cannot guarantee identical entry times or circuits for all members of a group.

  • Guided tours may not be available for alternative circuits or entry schedules.

  • Differences in entry times or circuits do not constitute grounds for refund, compensation, or service claims.

Travelers, therefore, waive any right to request refunds, discounts, or compensation related to ticket allocation, circuit assignment, or guide availability determined by government-controlled ticket distribution.

Mountain Hikes

Access to Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain is limited and self-guided. These hikes are completed independently and do not include a tour guide.

Transportation

Inca Jungle & Salkantay by Bus

Transportation Notice

As part of your trek to Machu Picchu, whether via the Inca Jungle, Salkantay, or other routes, please note that transportation between destinations is generally provided in small local vehicles. These are the primary means of transportation in the region’s villages and remote areas.

In mountainous areas, weather conditions or unforeseen events may result in road closures. If this occurs, it may be necessary to use smaller vehicles, as larger options may not be available. We ask for your patience, flexibility, and understanding in these circumstances.

Although we make every effort to ensure a smooth experience, there are factors beyond our control that may require adjustments to transportation arrangements. By proceeding with your reservation, you agree to these conditions and understand that no claims or refund requests will be accepted in these situations.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Your cooperation ensures a more pleasant and hassle-free experience for everyone!

Back to Cusco by Train

At Peru Bucket List SAC, train tickets between Aguas Calientes and Cusco are arranged according to the confirmed entrance schedule to Machu Picchu and the availability of train services on the selected travel date.

  • If your Machu Picchu entrance ticket has already been confirmed, we will arrange the train schedule that best matches your entry time.
  • If your Machu Picchu ticket has not yet been confirmed, the purchase of your return train ticket will be completed once the entry time to the archaeological site has been finalized.

Please note that train departure times are subject to availability, and specific schedules cannot be guaranteed.

Our Departures:

  • Machu Picchu return train service for tours to Machu Picchu (2 days, 1 night, or full days), depending on availability (from 4 pm – 5 pm)
  • For the Inca Jungle/Salkantay treks, train departure times are 7:00 pm or 8:00 pm.

Please note: Our company does not offer earlier departures. If you would like an earlier train schedule, you can request an upgrade for an additional cost of USD 25. We recommend inquiring about this option before starting your trek.

For exclusive return train services, an additional fee of:

  • Vistadome $55
  • Vistadome Observatory $89

Travel Planning Recommendation

We strongly recommend scheduling your visit to Machu Picchu early in your itinerary, ideally after arriving in Cusco and allowing time to acclimatize to the altitude.

Completing this visit first and leaving other tours in Cusco for later provides greater flexibility, particularly during peak season (June–October) when ticket and train availability may change.

This strategy also helps travelers avoid the stress of potentially missing flights or bus connections to other destinations if schedules are adjusted due to availability or operational factors.

If you prefer a specific train departure time, please inform us before the start of your tour or trek. Please note that specific train requests may involve additional charges depending on demand and availability.

Maintaining flexibility in your itinerary will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable travel experience.

Back to Cusco by Bus

This service is provided in a vehicle suitable for the number of travelers per day (generally with a capacity of 18 people). The road to the Hydroelectric Plant is narrow and winding, so large vehicles are not a viable option. The journey from the Hydroelectric to Cusco takes approximately 6 to 7 hours each way. If you plan to return to Cusco by bus after your tour or trek to Machu Picchu, review these key details to ensure a smooth trip:

Optimize your visit to Machu Picchu

  • Book your entrance early, ideally by 6:00 AM, which will allow you to explore the citadel at a leisurely pace (maximum recommended time: 2 hours).
  • Avoid Circuit 1 – Machu Picchu Mountain, as the 3-hour hike up + 3-hour hike down will significantly reduce your return time.
  • Timely return to Aguas Calientes

To be on time for your bus back to Cusco:

  • Return to Aguas Calientes no later than 11:00 AM. This will allow you to make the 3-hour hike to the Hydroelectric Plant.
  • The bus departs at 2:00 PM and arrives in Cusco between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM, depending on traffic and weather.

If you don’t have your entrance ticket in advance, if you need to purchase your ticket in Aguas Calientes, consider:

  • Availability may vary depending on the season.
  • The purchase process may take longer due to high visitor numbers.

If the ticket you purchase doesn’t allow you to return to Aguas Calientes before 11:00 AM, you should consider:

  • Staying an extra night in Aguas Calientes and taking the bus the next day.
  • Buying a last-minute train ticket, which can be expensive and is subject to availability.

Important reminder: By booking with Peru Bucket List SAC, you agree to:

  • Cover any additional expenses resulting from changes in schedules or ticket availability.
  • Exempt Peru Bucket List SAC from any refunds or claims due to these circumstances.

🎯Plan ahead for a worry-free trip. Always have a Plan B to avoid unforeseen events and enjoy your experience stress-free.

Machu Picchu by Car

The journey from Cusco to the Hydroelectric Power Plant is an adventure in itself. The road is often winding and rocky, which can make the journey by car (van) slower, taking approximately 6 to 7 hours each way. While this is not the most comfortable mode of transportation, it offers a unique and immersive experience that allows you to enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of the Andean mountains.

Important information for travelers:

  • The round-trip journey between the Hydroelectric Power Plant and Aguas Calientes does not include a guide, and no guide will be provided for the hike between Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu. However, we will make sure to provide you with all the necessary information, including hotel addresses and essential details to navigate the route with confidence.
  • The Hydroelectric Power Plant serves as an alternative access point to Machu Picchu, and many travelers prefer this route due to its accessibility. The hike from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu is safe, easy to follow, and clearly marked, making it suitable for travelers of all fitness levels.
  • While the journey may take time and present some challenges, it offers an unforgettable experience that becomes an integral part of your adventure to Machu Picchu. Pick Up & Drop Off

This transportation service applies to treks such as Inca Jungle and Salkantay, as well as tours to Machu Picchu by train or bus. For other tours, please refer to the itinerary of the program you have selected.

Pick-Up Service

Pick-up is provided from accommodations located within the historic center of Cusco at a previously scheduled time.

Travelers must provide their exact accommodation details in advance to coordinate the service.

Due to narrow streets, traffic regulations, and limited vehicle access in some areas of Cusco, direct pick-up at certain hostels or hotels may not always be possible. In such cases, travelers will be asked to meet the guide at a nearby designated meeting point within walking distance.

Travelers are responsible for being ready and waiting at the agreed time and location. Late arrivals may result in missing the pick-up, and the tour or trek may continue without the passenger.

Drop-Off Service

At the end of the tour or trek to Machu Picchu, we will attempt to drop travelers off at their accommodation in Cusco, depending on traffic conditions, location, and operational logistics.

If direct drop-off is not possible, the final stop will be at Plaza Regocijo, located approximately three blocks from Plaza de Armas de Cusco.

This centralized drop-off location allows travelers to easily reach nearby accommodations while ensuring efficient transportation for all participants.
